Carry on Kicking return this May for their second mental health football tournament, building on the success of last year’s event as the club continues its mission to raise awareness and use football as a way to bring people together.
Set to take place at Charlotte Street, Dundee, with a 2PM kick off, the festival promises an afternoon of competitive football, community spirit and connection.
Delivered in partnership with Dundee West Community Trust, the event highlights the power of collaboration in creating opportunities for people to come together through football and community support.
Following the impact of their first tournament, this year’s event is set to be bigger and even more inclusive, bringing together teams from across the region who all share a commitment to supporting mental health through sport.
Each team represents more than just football, they are part of a growing movement using the game to break stigma, build support networks and create safe spaces for people to connect.
Brandyn Duthie of Carry on Kicking staff and marketing spoke ahead of the event and gave an honest reflection on the importance of the day.
“At our sessions, if we are being honest, there is not always a lot of talking. Sometimes mental health is still a bit of the elephant in the room. But what you do see is people turning up, playing and being around others who understand without needing to say much.”
“This tournament is where that togetherness really comes to life. It shows that even if people are not always speaking about it, they are not alone and they are part of something.”
“We are really proud to be working in partnership with Dundee West Community Trust to make this happen. A lot of work goes on behind the scenes and we really appreciate Jack and Tam at Dundee West Community Trust for everything they have done to help bring this together.”
“To be returning for our second tournament as Carry on Kicking means a lot to us. We are looking forward to seeing everyone come together again, different teams, organisations and the wider community, all in one place for the same reason.”
This festival is about more than results, it is about showing up, being part of something and reminding people they are not on their own.
Supporters, families and the wider community are all encouraged to come along and be part of a day that highlights the power of football in bringing people together.
